Dogs would be allowed at all Canton parks except one, Boling Park, under a proposal to come before the City Council on July 21.
“When Etowah River Park opened last August, we used it as a pilot” for allowing dogs, said Parks & Recreation Director Tom Gilliam. “Everything went great, dog owners were great about cleaning up after their pets.”
The proposed dogs-in-the-parks policy would set the following rules: Dogs must be licensed and on a leash, unless in an area otherwise indicated, and the leash can be no more than 10 feet long.
They may not harass humans or other animals. Owners would be required to pick up after their pets; disposal receptacles will be provided. Violators could be cited, fined and asked to leave the park.
The City Council discussed the proposal when it met in workshop session Thursday.
