The city of Canton invites public comment on the proposed expansion of the Etowah River Park Trail as part of its formal application for an Extension Land and Water Conservation grant of the National Park Service.

Canton is required to seek public input on the environmental assessment by the grants program manager, using data prepared by city consultant Hayes, James & Associates Inc., according to a city announcement. Information: https://bit.ly/2NblBU6

The trail extension connects to Canton’s Heritage Park on the opposite side of the Etowah and passes through the existing Etowah River Park, officials said. The last 1,400 feet of the 1.4-mile trail is designated a LWCF project to be funded by the Park Service grant, with a 50 percent match from the city.

“The purpose of the project is to further the opportunities of the public to enjoy outdoor activities afforded by an expanded walking trail system,” the city said.
