The Canton City Council has approved a right-of-way licensing deal with a California-based company that wishes to use a mix of existing city utility poles and new poles in city rights of way for a wireless service.

The agreement with Mobilitie LLC of Newport Beach, Calif., follows a model wireless agreement of the Georgia Municipal Association as a template.

Mobilitie agreed to pay the city an annual license fee of $500 per site for attachments to existing poles and $1,350 per site, with a 3 percent annual escalator, for new poles. The company would pay an additional $500 a year for any other carrier that locates on one of its poles.
