The Canton City Council has approved an $85,000 contract with Playworx Playsets LLC of Marietta to install an accessible playground at Etowah River Park.

Playworx was one of four vendors that submitted proposals. Its plan utilizes Little Tikes Commercial playground equipment and “best incorporated options for individuals with special needs,” according to a staff report to council.

Playworx will install a poured-in-place rubber surface, a complete ramp system, accessibility swings, “Mommy and Me” swings, interactive panels that teach Braille, a large gliding ship and areas of shade.

The design had to be wheelchair-accessible, comply with Americans With Disabilities Act rules and other regulations, and fit within a 120-by-80-foot footprint. The project will be paid for by parks impact fees.
