The Canton City Council will welcome new members and get an update on the longstanding northwest Canton fire station project at its meeting Thursday.

Current council members Farris Yawn and Jack Goodwin as well as Mayor Gene Hobgood will be sworn in for another term, and new/returning member JoEllen Wilson will take the oath as well. All won election in November.

Council members will also hear an update on the fire station project involving testing of the foundation under the facility planned for the Laurel Canyon area. A city official said the project’s fallen slightly behind schedule.

A grab-bag of other matters will also be considered, including possibly reducing the speed limit on East Main Street, and a concession stand contract for Etowah Park.
