The city of Canton is refining its approach to dealing with winter weather.
Several top officials met last week to talk storm preparedness. As a result, the city has added two additional staging areas where spreader trucks can pick up gravel and sand to put on snowy and icy streets. The new locations in downtown and northwest Canton (in addition to the public works offices site) should cut the round-trip time for reloading from 30 minutes to perhaps 15, making for faster application, according to Fire Chief Dean Floyd.
City officials also have an additional “scraper” to use in any winter weather this year, and have updated employee storm assignments, Floyd added.
