As it prepared to open a new store in the Fayette Pavilion on Oct. 4, Burlington has donated $10,000 to Spring Hill Elementary School in Fayetteville to build an outdoor learning space.

The gift was made in partnership with AdoptAClassroom.org, in which Burlington supports a high-needs school in the vicinity of each new store location. Principal Jamie Munoz said the new classroom will allow students to “absorb lessons in a meaningful and fun way while enjoying nature.” A planning committee is being formed at the school to refine details of the space, which will serve all grades and subjects.

The Fayetteville store’s manager, Andria Maruca-Orr, presented the funds to school system representatives during a special assembly last week.
