Preschoolers building their own kinds of cars, rockets and robots.

Sounds impossible, right? Well, not at this upcoming STEM camp for metro Atlanta children.

Holy Innocents' Episcopal School in Sandy Springs is inviting local youngsters and parents to let their imaginations run wild at its "STEMsational" Saturday camp happening on Nov. 5.

The school’s STEM — science, technology, engineering and math — camp is open to children ages 3 to 5. They will spend the afternoon with other science students crafting small cars, programming robots and shooting off straw rockets.

While STEM activities are typically for students of older ages, it is never too early to start teaching younger children some of the hands-on basics, said Beth-Sarah Wright, the school’s director of enrollment management.

“STEM skills can be used for more beautiful art and powerful performances, more polished projects — not to mention critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving,” she said.

There will also be prize giveaways for all of the projects, and each child will get their own engineering certificate

So, build away kiddos.

The event is free and goes from  9 to 11 a.m. on Holy Innocents’ Alan A. Lewis Primary School.
