Brookhaven Planning Commission rejects design review board

If established, a design review board’s work would relate to the visual appearance of the city, such as granting approval to use large advertising signs.

The Brookhaven Planning Commission decided not to recommend the creation of a design review board during its most recent meeting. Although the Brookhaven City Council thought that a design review board would help guide the design of development projects in the city and the commission staff recommended approval of its creation, the commission group itself rejected the recommendation as unnecessary and costly. The commission staff also requested and received public input which indicated lack of enthusiasm for the new board’s creation.

“I was all for this, but there is no citizen outcry to do this, there’s no consensus, it adds cost, it adds complexity,” said Commissioner Chairman Stan Segal. “We should recommend the council table this action indefinitely.”
