Construction of the new Skyland Park, scheduled to begin in February, will be delayed until late April or early May, due to a delay in the closing transaction between DeKalb County Public Schools and the State of Georgia.

The park improvements are now expected to be complete in October.

In May, the city of Brookhaven and the DeKalb County Board of Education reached an agreement in which the board would purchase Skyland Park from the city and build a new school on the site in an effort to relieve overcrowding. As part of the agreement, the board would purchase the building at 2600 Skyland Drive adjacent to the existing park from the state, transferring that property to the city to build the new Skyland Park at that site.

The board and the state are now scheduled to close on their transaction in mid-March. The city will receive $4.75 million for the existing Skyland Park site.
