The city of Brookhaven and MARTA agreed Monday to postpone the submission of rezoning applications for MARTA’s planned Brookhaven/Oglethorpe Transit Oriented Development until June 1.

The extra time will allow the city to consider both resident’s transportation needs and address existing traffic problems, business impact and other regional issues that could be further impacted by this TOD. As part of this initiative, task forces of Brookhaven residents will review their neighborhood plan in depth and make recommendations for the rezoning efforts.

“I’ve heard residents’ concerns, and there are many unanswered questions regarding these plans,” said Mayor John Ernst. “Any development at this site will have a big impact on our community for decades, and this process cannot be rushed. I’m pleased that all parties agree that we must plan smarter in order for this property to meet the needs of our city.”
