The City of Brookhaven is hosting a Conservancy Park workday on Saturday during open hours for the city parks. The Parks and Recreation Department has employed a contractor for the mulching and removal of non-native and invasive plants throughout its parks, particularly Murphey Candler Park, in an effort to sustain the mature forest within the parks.

The community is encouraged to come out and participate in the removal of invasive plants.

The decision to do this work was based on input gathered from the local park communities wishing to clear invasive plants. Work began last week at Murphey Candler Park’s east side. The plant removal assists healthy growth and allows the parks to be maintained in years to come.

The contractor will remove mulching debris to delineate where the trail system and its spurs are currently being used.
