The city of Brookhaven has added to the city landscape, fulfilling a promise to residents. Brookhaven celebrated February as National Tree Month with a report of the city’s Tree Fund account containing over $21,000. The money will be used to purchase, install and maintain trees in parks, city property and the newly acquired urban forest by DeKalb Peachtree Airport.

“It is imperative that we facilitate responsible land development to promote canopy preservation, tree replacement and economic development,” said Brookhaven Mayor John Ernst. “The Tree Fund gives Brookhaven a vital tool to protect the many environmental benefits to provide both economic and ecological vitality to the city and its citizens.”

Brookhaven began its celebration of Tree Month early, buying 33-acres of greenspace in January. Approximately 40 trees were planted in Georgian Hills Park two weeks ago and at a separate event, volunteers planted more than 200 trees at Murphey Candler Park Conservancy.
