More than a dozen people were injured when a car collided with a MARTA bus early Tuesday morning.
A passenger car exiting I-20 at Flat Shoals Road crashed into the back end of a bus just before 6 a.m., MARTA spokeswoman Stephany Fisher told AJC.com. While MARTA said 13 passengers on the bus and the driver of the car were injured, Atlanta police said they were only aware of 11 injuries.
Some of those injured were taken to area hospitals and some left the scene. The passengers complained of minor injuries, police spokesman Officer Jarius Daugherty said.
Daugherty said the driver of the car was trying to brake coming off the exit ramp before the collision. Roads were wet all over metro Atlanta on Tuesday.
“The driver reported that the vehicle did not respond, and ultimately collided with the passenger side of the MARTA bus, which was proceeding through the intersection west on Flat Shoals Road with the right of way,” he said in a statement.
The car’s driver was cited for driving too fast for conditions and failure to obey a traffic control device. The crash is still under investigation.
Another bus was brought in to continue the route, Fisher said. Route 74 operates from the Inman Park/Reynoldstown station to Rainbow Way.
