A medical examiner determined that the human remains recovered Sunday from the Yellow River in Newton County belong to a girl between 12 and 17 years of age, according to Channel 2 Action News.

A fisherman reported the body about 5:30 p.m. Saturday, but Newton deputies couldn't remove the remains until daylight Sunday, sheriff's spokesman Jeff Alexander said.

There are no apparent identifying scars, marks or tattoos on the body. In addition, the cause and manner of death have yet to be determined.

Any calls to assist in the identity of this person should be directed to (678) 898-0658 or (678) 898-0506.
