Nearly a week after they were last seen leaving a bar in Belize, an Atlanta man and his girlfriend were found dead Monday afternoon in the Central American nation, a friend said.
Police have not said how 36-year-old Drew DeVoursney and 52-year-old Francesca Matus died. Their bodies were found near a cane field in Chan Chen village in the Corozal District, according to multiple reports.
The deaths were first confirmed by ABC News.

"I couldn't even bring myself to type this," friend Brandon Barfield wrote on a GoFundMe Page used to update family and friends on the search for the couple. "I received a call from Belize saying that they found their bodies, Francesca and Drew."
Friend Joseph Milholen told ABC News he last saw DeVoursney and Matus late Tuesday night as they left the bar.
He went to Matus’ home in the Corozal District on Friday to take her to the airport because she was scheduled to fly home to Toronto. When Milholen got to the house, he could not find Matus.
He reported the couple missing, ABC News reported.
Milholen told police DeVoursney's bicycle was parked in her driveway, but Matus' car was gone, the news network reported.
A white 1998 Isuzu Rodeo that belonged to Matus was found Sunday in a remote sugar cane field about 10 miles from the bar, according to DeVoursney’s brother, David. The family had been expecting DeVoursney to fly home to Atlanta later this week. His mother lives in the Atlanta area.
DeVoursney attended Montreat College in North Carolina, but joined the Marines after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and served a couple of tours in Iraq. He was a disabled veteran, but was scheduled to enroll in a technical college in Georgia this month to get his heavy equipment license.
