Bond was denied Tuesday for a man who allegedly shot his girlfriend, then held her hostage during a Sunday SWAT standoff.

Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones said that officers initially were called to the home in the 300 block of Corvair Drive shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday to investigate reports that a woman and child had been shot.

“It was learned that a female was shot at the location, but no child shot,” Jones said.

“The victim advised police that she was shot by her boyfriend, Jermaine Parker,” Jones said. “The child was injured slightly as the female dropped the child when she was shot.”

Jones said both the woman and the child were treated at local hospitals and released.

Just after 11 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to another call at the same home “in reference to a female being held at knife point,” Jones told the AJC in an e-mail.

Responding officers were told that the same female and child were being held by Parker, and SWAT officers and hostage negotiators were called in.

Jones said Parker allowed the child to be released to family members uninjured, but refused to release the woman.

After several hours, SWAT officers were able to distract Parker and take him into custody.

Parker made his first court appearance Tuesday at the Fulton County Jail, and was ordered held without bond on charges of aggravated assault, rape and kidnapping. His next court hearing is scheduled for Feb. 5, jail officials said.

Jones said Parker is facing numerous charges, including kidnapping and aggravated assault.
