The planned reconstruction of the I-285/Ga. 400 interchange on the Northside advanced during Thursday’s meeting of the state transportation board.

The board approved a joint resolution between the Georgia Department of Transportation and the State Road and Tollway Authority authorizing the mammoth plan to move forward and clearing the way for GDOT to manage the project as SRTA’s agent. It also authorizes GDOT to make funds available for the roadwork subject to annual appropriations up to $907 million.

Construction on the $1 billion project is scheduled to start next year, with a planned 2019 finish. GDOT says the outmoded and congested interchange carries some 365,000 vehicles daily.
