Blackburn open-use soccer fields to close for renovation

The two open-use soccer fields at Blackburn Park in Brookhaven will be closed for renovation Wednesday through July 15.

The renovation will consist of aeration, top dressing and the planting of new grass sprigs. The fields will be locked and signage will be displayed. The renovation is necessary to establish new athletic field turf on those fields, and now is the prime time due to the growing season. The fields need to remain closed and off limits to ensure proper growth, which is achieved through keeping people off the fields and watering heavily through the middle of the growing season.
