The Duluth City Council recently approved a request by SKA Academy of Art and Design for a temporary public art installation. Approximately 30 birdhouses will be created using 2-liter plastic bottles decorated with additional recycled materials and hung in the mid-sized trees of Town Green. The art will be created by SKA students, parents, and staff.
The birdhouses will be located near the walkway across from the fountain and townhouses. Wind spirals made using recycled materials will also be part of the installation. SKA will be responsible for installation, maintenance, and removal, and will fund the project through contributions and their National Art Honor Society.
Duluth’s mayor and council agreed on an initial one-month installation during October, with the potential re-installation of the pieces in February or spring 2017. The approved schedule will work around the city’s fall festival and seasonal decorations scheduled for the Town Green.
