The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners has OK’d a 90-day moratorium on plans to convert existing billboards to electronic message board-type signs along the Ga. 400 corridor, expanding an earlier 30-day moratorium.

The decision this week was an outgrowth of an earlier move by commissioners to allow billboard companies with vegetation management permits (so that owners can clear away blocking vegetation) to lower their boards to a minimum height of 75 feet. There has been concern that these lower signs will pose a safety risk to motorists and impact quality of life.

During the 90 days, staffers will study and make recommendations regarding brightness regulations involving the signs.
