Lewis Makor, of DeKalb's Tucker High School and Ce'Darius Glaze of Atlanta's Therrell High School each won $5,000 college scholarships from Sun Life Financial. The awards were given as part of a program with TOTEM™ by Cirque du Soleil®. The students were named Sun Life Rising Star Award scholarships for their outstanding academic achievement.

Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology art students had works of art displayed in the High Museum of Art "A Teen Exhibition Teen Program." The works were inspired by the recent presidential campaign; and the exhibition "Choose Me: Arthur Grace's Portraits of a Presidential Race." Students and their work include: Kelly Glennon "Freedom of Speech" styrofoam, acrylic paint and wax; Zoe Clara Kim "Hope" digital painting and collage; Elizabeth Solimonu "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" oil pastel and Lexys Velarde "SB1070" oil on canvas panel. Jennifer Prince is their teacher.

Marietta Sixth Grade Academy assistant principal Catherine Kacyvenski is the recipient of the Georgia Association of Middle School Principals (GAMSP) District 14 – Georgia Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year Award. Kacyvenski is also one of two state finalists named for the Middle Level National Distinguished Assistant Principal of the Year Award sponsored by GAMSP and the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP).

Holy Innocents' Episcopal School junior Peter Myer won the Best Negotiator award at a Model United Nations conference at Emory University earlier this month. In its first year of competition, the HIES Model UN Team, with 13 members, competed against some 600 students from across the United States and other countries.
