High Meadows School in Roswell has been named a U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School, a distinction that acknowledges the school for its multifaceted efforts in environmental and sustainability education. The areas encompassed in the award includes reduced environmental impact and costs, improved health and wellness, and effective environmental and sustainability education. High Meadows was one of two recipients in Georgia and one of only nine independent schools in the nation to receive the award.

Artwork depicting a peach sprouting out of the ground, created by a Grady High School freshman, has been selected as the winning design for the COUNTRY Financial reusable bag design contest for the Peachtree Road Farmers Market. Mei Nathan took first place and will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Kinley Davis, also a freshman at Grady High School, and Tahj Mitchell, a junior at Mays High School, were named runners-up and received a $500 scholarship. Shoppers can pick up this year's limited edition reusable bags at select events throughout the season.

The Arby’s Foundation, the charitable arm of Arby’s Restaurant Group Inc. and Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign launched School’s Out, Food’s In, the nation’s largest partnership investment around childhood hunger during the summer. Over the course of four years, the Arby’s Foundation will invest $4 million with Share Our Strength to solve the problems children face over the vulnerable summer months.

Timber Ridge Elementary School in Marietta celebrated the grand opening of their new outdoor classroom on Earth Day with over 700 people in attendance for the unveiling. The classroom was a huge undertaking for the school and has been in the making for over a year. The project was a completely volunteer-led, community based initiative, and lead science teacher Alison Dunford was the project's visionary, conceiving it from start to finish. Walton High School junior Stephen Whitcomb built the classroom's wooden pergola and staircase with his Boy Scout Troop for his Eagle Scout Project, while Walton senior Jackie Gardner refurbished the classroom stage complex for her Girl Scout Gold Award Project. Both students and their fellow scouts dedicated a year to the classroom renovation and helped raise funds needed for its completion.

The Wesleyan Middle School Science Bowl team made the Final Eight or "Elite Eight," finishing seventh overall in the 2014 National Science Bowl held April 25 in Washington, D.C. As a Final Eight winner, the team was awarded $1,000, payable to Wesleyan Middle for science education. The team finished second in their division with a 5-2 record. The team is coached by Dr. Patricia McCoy and consists of eighth-grader and team captain Nicholas Poulos, eighth-grader Jack Lambert, eighth-grader Christopher Jackson, eighth-grader Ethan Moon and sixth-grader Andy Yang.
