Bascomb Elementary School in Woodstock was one of only 10 schools in the state recently awarded the 2016 Georgia School Bell Award, the Cherokee County School District announced.
The award, given by the Georgia Association of Elementary School Principals, recognizes “exemplary programs that show positive results and reflect significant involvement of staff, students, parents and community,” the district said.
Bascomb and its Principal Kathleen Chandler were recognized for “Keeping It Real,” a schoolwide initiative that offered interactive, hands-on activities to involve students in their lessons – such as a fourth-grade Colonial Day, a fifth-grade Civil War Day and an all-grades Science Day.
This is the sixth consecutive year that at least one Cherokee County school has earned a School Bell award, officials said. The awards will be presented at the principals association’s fall conference in Savannah.
