The city of Ball Ground has officially been designated as a Main Street Program community after finishing a “fast-track” startup program through the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.

The designation will jump-start downtown improvements in several ways, including low-interest loans for property acquisition and improvements, businesses having access to planners and designers at a greatly-reduced cost and having a Main Street board plan community events and activities, said Ball Ground Main Street Program Manager Karla Weaver.

The city got notice of its selection at the end of January, following a year’s worth of preparatory work.
