There's a baby giraffe at Zoo Atlanta.

Glenda, a 3-year-old female giraffe, has given birth to her first calf, zoo officials said Tuesday.

The newborn giraffe is about 6 feet tall and weighs between 100 and 150 lbs, zoo officials said.

“We are extremely excited about the birth of the calf,” said Raymond King, Zoo Atlanta's president and chief executive officer.

The Animal Management and Veterinary Teams will continue to monitor both Glenda and the calf indoors before allowing them to explore their African Plains habitat at the zoo. They will be out of the public eye for two to three weeks, zoo officials said.

Glenda and her half-sister, 4-year-old Mona, were born a Disney’s Animal Kingdom in October 2006. They arrived at Zoo Atlanta a year later.
