Avondale Estates set 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Jan. 12-16 as the qualifying period for mayor at City Hall, 21 N. Avondale Plaza.
Qualifying fee is $3 per candidate, with a special election set for March 17, 2015.
If only one candidate qualifies there will be no election, and if no one qualifies current mayor pro tem Terry Giager remains active mayor through Dec. 31, 2015.
Ed Rieker resigned Oct. 1 after nearly seven years as mayor. City manager Clai Brown, who grew up in Avondale, (his father, Dewey Brown, was city manager from 1945-1991) said that to his knowledge no other Avondale mayor has resigned in mid-term.
