During a city commission meeting earlier this week a number of Avondale Estates residents expressed uneasiness in the delay over seeing development plans from Euramex Management, which owns 13 downtown acres.

Euramex spent over $5 million for the former Fenner Dunlop site back in October, but since then the city has had only a handful of meetings with the developer, the most recent in April. At that time Mayor Jonathan Elmore saw what he described as a “rough draft” of plans, and commissioners agreed then the project needed more green space.

“In my mind there’s nothing to [the delay],” Elmore said this week. “This is a huge project for Avondale with a lot of pieces. It’s a hundred-step process and we’re not even at step one yet.”

City Manager Clai Brown anticipates the project could cost anywhere from “$50 million to $80 million.”

He says the city currently has no meeting scheduled with Euramex.
