Authorities: Teen drowns in Lake Lanier

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Firefighters say a teen has drowned swimming in Lake Lanier.

Authorities told WAGA-TV on Saturday that the 17-year-old boy was trying to cross from Burton Park in Flowery Branch to a cove that was outside a designated swimming area.

A friend of the teenager reported the drowning around 5:20 p.m. Divers pulled the teen from the water but were unable to revive him.

The victim's name was not immediately released.
