Authorities ID suspect fatally shot by state trooper

A Georgia State Patrol officer shot and killed a suspect during a vehicle pursuit Saturday evening in Morgan County.

The deceased suspect has been identified as Horace Lorenzo Parks, 45, of Morgan County, the State Patrol said.

The shooting followed a chase that ended when Parks rammed a local police vehicle in Morgan County, authorities said. Parks pointed a gun at his head and then at the officers, and the trooper fired at him, said Lt. Paul Cosper of the Georgia State Patrol.

Parks led the trooper on a chase around 8 p.m., when the trooper spotted his vehicle, which local authorities had tied to a shooting at a restaurant, Cosper said.
