The Austell City Council decided Monday to increase the amount of Austell Gas System revenues that will go to the city.

This city charter change will increase that gross revenue from nine to 11 percent for the city.

Again this month, City Attorney Scott Kimbrough said the gas cost is “very flat.”

Without this change, revenue projections for the 2016-17 fiscal year, from July 1 to June 30, would be $920,000 lower to the city from the gas system, according to the city’s Finance Director Denise Soesbee.

Reasons are gas prices have decreased from $4 to $2 and decreased usage by customers, she added, resulting in a 2016-17 budget of nearly $14.7 million with no salary increases.
