Austell Mayor Joe Jerkins announced Monday his appointment of Assistant Fire Chief Pat Maxwell to replace Fire Chief Tim Williams who will retire on June 24.
Williams, 58, has been with the city’s fire department for 34 years, one of the longest serving employees.
Maxwell has been with the city for around 25 years.
Williams also has been in charge of the city’s wellness program, helping to establish the gym for city employees and elected and appointed officials.
Jerkins said of Williams, “He’s done a fantastic job. I don’t know how anyone could have done a better job.”
“It’s hard to walk away. I still love my job,” Williams added.
