Atlanta seeks input on improving parks & rec experience
The City of Atlanta’s Department of Parks and Recreation has launched a comprehensive master planning effort called ActivateATL: Recreation and Parks for All, according to a press release.
During this challenging time and beyond, the Department of Parks and Rec. is committed to building a better parks and recreation system that meets the needs of all Atlantans. They are asking residents to share thoughts on how recreation and parks can better serve and improve the health of local families.
A central goal of ActivateATL is to bring all residents — regardless of age, race, gender, ability, socioeconomic status, or ZIP code — within a 10-minute walk of exceptional parks and recreational activities, aligning with Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms’ vision of “One Atlanta.” ActivateATL will also identify important funding recommendations and create a 10-year capital improvement plan to guide the preservation and maintenance of parks and recreation centers.

The success of this plan depends on hearing from residence. Everyone is urged to take the online survey and share concerns, hopes and dreams for Atlanta parks and recreation.
Residents are also encouraged to mark their calendars and attend an upcoming Virtual Public Input Meeting (dates from June 23 - July 18). This will be an opportunity to learn about the work of the Department of Parks and Recreation, hear more about ActivateATL, give input, and ask questions directly to the project team and department leadership.
Residents are also asked to get friends and neighbors engaged with ActivateATL through a short video about their experience with Atlanta’s parks and recreational programming. By sharing on social media, participants can receive a limited ActivateATL t-shirt. Video ideas include why you love parks and rec, your favorite activities, how parks and rec have helped you and your family through the COVID-19 pandemic, and more.
