The temperatures will be hot, and roadwork this weekend could leave some motorist hot under the collar, particularly on the Downtown Connector. Here’s what you need to know to avoid the traffic backups:

Connector, I-285 expected to be big trouble spots

Four lanes of the Downtown Connector in both directions will be shut down all weekend between Capitol Avenue and 10th Street.

On I-285, two northbound lanes will be closed all weekend between Old National Highway and Camp Creek Parkway, while one northbound lane will be closed from Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to I-20 on the west side.

Across town on I-285, one lane and part of the entrance and exit ramps from Glenwood Road to Chamblee Tucker Road will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

One northbound and one southbound lane of I-285 at Atlanta Road will be closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.

On I-20, three eastbound lanes will be closed all weekend between Langhorn Street and McDaniel Street, while east of town, two westbound lanes of I-20 will be closed between Alcovy Road and U.S. 278.

One lane of I-85 in each direction between Riverdale Road and Cleveland Avenue will be closed nightly.

On I-75, two northbound lanes will be closed between Mount Paran Road and Cumberland Boulevard from 9 p.m. Friday until 7 a.m. Saturday.

In Cobb County, Express Lane construction will shut down one lane of I-575 between Barrett Parkway and Bells Ferry Road from 9 p.m. Friday until 10 a.m. Saturday.

Chance of rain slim on Saturday, nil on Sunday

Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton is predicting a 20 percent chance of rain and a high of 91 degrees for Saturday. There will be sunny skies with no rain on Sunday, with a high around 93.

Morning lows will be in the mid-70s both days, she said.

Marching music, cars and motorcycles highlight weekend events

A couple of events Saturday are expected to bring big crowds into downtown Atlanta.

The Drum Corps International Southeastern Championships begin at the Georgia Dome at 2 p.m., while next door at the Georgia World Congress Center, the V103 Car and Bike Show runs from noon to 9 p.m.

The BB&T Atlanta Open tennis tournament begins Saturday at Atlantic Station and runs through August 2.

Other weekend events include the 5th annual Atlanta Ice Cream Festival, which will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Piedmont Park.
