The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for most of central Georgia, including south metro Atlanta, from Tuesday morning through Wednesday afternoon.
The watch, issued Sunday afternoon, covers Clayton, Henry and Fayette counties southward. It means there is a potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel, the NWS said. Sleet accumulations are more likely along a Columbus to Macon line, according to the alert.
The wintry precipitation could begin as early as mid-morning Tuesday and last through early Wednesday afternoon, the NWS said, with the most expected to fall between 10 p.m. Tuesday and 5 a.m. Wednesday.

That’s a definite change from Sunday’s weather, which allowed metro Atlanta to shake off winter a bit before the next arctic blast.
Sunday was mostly sunny and cool with a high of 56 degrees, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said. Highs will also reach 50 Monday, with partly cloudy and breezy conditions.
The cold front is expected to move through the area Monday afternoon and evening, Nitz said. Then temperatures will plummet again.
Tuesday will be mostly cloudy and cold, with a high of only 34 degrees. There is a 40 percent chance of snow or a wintry mix, Nitz said, but that is more likely to the south of metro Atlanta.
High temperatures will remain in the mid-30s Wednesday before rising to the low 40s Thursday. Lows will be in the teens both days.
Friday, the area should hit the 50-degree mark again.
