If you can’t remember it ever being so cool in August, you’re right.
The weekend started off with autumn-like conditions, but a warming trend is starting to kick in, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz.
Atlanta’s unseasonably cool mid-August weather continued with a high of only 66 Saturday. The average high for this time of year is 88. Temperatures are expected to reach 77 on Sunday.
The bad news is, like much of this summer, there’s rain this weekend. The good news is, the soggy forecast has prompted the state Department of Transportation to postpone roadwork that would have shut down three lanes of the top-end Perimeter in each direction.
The DOT does, however, still plan to do interchange work on I-85 northbound near Ga. 400. The three right lanes of the interstate will be closed through 5 a.m. Monday.
Nitz said Sunday will see light to moderate showers.
In between the weekend showers, the Braves will try to finish a weekend series against the Nationals. Game time is 1:35 p.m. Sunday.
Elsewhere downtown, Philips Arena will host the Atlanta Dream women’s basketball game against Washington at 3 p.m. Sunday.
Next door to the arena, the four-day Bronner Bros. International Hair Show began Saturday at the Georgia World Congress Center.
Temperatures are expected to return to the low to mid 80s next week, Nitz said.
