Atlanta weather | Soggy Sunday

The weekend wraps up on a wet note for metro Atlanta, with rain, heavy at times, expected to continue through the evening. Heavy downpours helped cause an 80-foot oak tree to fall on Westminister Way in DeKalb County and contributed to several minor wrecks on the interstates. No serious injuries were reported.

Sunday's forecast: Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said the area could receive up to 1-1/2 inches of precipitation. Temperatures will remain in the upper 50s.

Will I need an umbrella? Yes, although Nitz said we could see occasional lulls in the rain Sunday afternoon.

On the road: The rain will put a halt to the Georgia Department of Transportation's construction projects, but expect heavier traffic volume downtown for the SEC Basketball Tournament championship game.

What's ahead: The rain will continue into Monday, with a 70 percent chance of precipitation and a high of 51. We'll begin drying out Tuesday, with a high of 55. Spring-like conditions will return Wednesday, with partly sunny skies and a high near 70.
