Metro Atlanta’s wild February weather will continue early Friday, when there’s a slight risk of severe storms.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop ahead of a cold front and push across north and central Georgia, forecasters said.
A squall line potentially packing strong winds and heavy downpours will likely move into the northwest corner of the state around 3 a.m. Friday.
“By the time we get to 6 a.m., it’s right over the top of Atlanta, and by 7, it’s out of here,” Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said.
The storms will push through central Georgia during the late morning and early afternoon hours, Minton said.
The greatest threat of severe weather will be mainly north of a line from LaGrange to Atlanta to Gainesville, the National Weather Service said.
Temperatures will drop quickly behind the front, according to Minton.
After highs in the low 70s on Thursday, Friday’s highs will be in the mid-50s, she said.
Minton said the chance of rain is 100 percent overnight, diminishing to 30 percent by late Friday morning.
The weekend will begin with sunny Saturday skies, but Sunday should be mostly cloudy, with a 20 percent chance of late-day showers.
Weekend highs will be in the mid-60s, with lows in the upper 30s to mid-40s.
