After a cold and rainy Friday, conditions are expected to continue overnight.

Overnight temperatures Friday are expected in the low 40s with scattered showers.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist David Chandley said Saturday will be mostly cloudy with a chance of rain in the morning. Highs are expected in the upper 50s.

Overnight showers Thursday and thunderstorms dumped more than an inch of rain across metro Atlanta, and forecasters early Friday said there is a lot more rain to come.

The heavy rain made a mess out of the Friday morning commute.

All southbound lanes of the Downtown Connector were shut down for about 45 minutes around 5 a.m. after a vehicle that stalled in a center lane was struck by at least one other car.

Other early wrecks were reported on Ga. 400 southbound at Old Milton Parkway and on I-20 eastbound at Columbia Drive.

Atlanta’s official gauge at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport recorded 1.25 inches of rain from the time the showers began late Thursday through 6 a.m. Friday.

Other rainfall totals through 6 a.m. included 1.39 inches in Dunwoody, 1.26 inches in Johns Creek, 1.07 inches in Chamblee and .94 inch in Marietta.

A flood watch went into effect Friday afternoon for areas of north and central Georgia south of a line from Cedartown to Cumming to Homer. All but the far northern suburbs of metro Atlanta are included in the watch, which runs through Saturday afternoon.

After a brief reprieve on Sunday, rain moves back into the state on Monday, and is expected to continue through Tuesday morning, Chandley said. Expect Sunday to be mostly sunny with highs in the mid-60s.
