Wednesday and Thursday’s unseasonably warm afternoon temperatures will be replaced this weekend with the coolest weather in months after a cold front pushes into Georgia.
But first, Friday promises to be a rainy day, with a risk of storms as the front rolls through metro Atlanta.
The front is expected to reach the northwest corner of Georgia around 9 a.m. Friday, Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said.
“We have to be on the lookout for strong winds, lightning and some heavy downpours as it rolls through,” Minton said. “Lunchtime could be a little messy, but as we get to those late afternoon hours and you’re trying to drive home from work, there will be improvements.”
The chance of rain Friday is 100 percent, according to Minton. A few of Friday’s storms could be severe, particularly early in the day across northwest Georgia, the National Weather Service warned.
Minton said afternoon highs will be in the mid-80s Thursday, mid-70s Friday, mid-60s Saturday and around 70 degrees Sunday.
Morning lows will be the mid-60s Friday, low 50s Saturday and mid-40s Sunday, Minton said. Temperatures could drop into the 30s in the mountain counties early Sunday, she said.
The last time Atlanta’s temperatures dipped into the 40s was in mid-May. Normal high for early October is 77, the normal low 59.
