College leaders have begun discussing whether students will have to make up lost class time because of campus closures related to the winter storm.

Decisions are not expected for several days, as officials said the first priority is re-opening campuses.

Make-up policies will likely vary among colleges. The State Board of Regents, which oversees the 35 colleges in the University System of Georgia, doesn’t have rules on this issue, spokesman John Millsaps said.

University of Georgia spokesman Tom Jackson said the provost will need to "consult with several campus constituencies before reaching a resolution." Part of the issue will depend on how many class days students ultimately miss, Jackson said.

Colleges were closed for most of the week because of the snow storm. Classes are expected to resume on a small scale at some campuses Thursday.

Some students have wondered on Twitter if they should hold off making Spring Break plans.

Georgia Tech officials are looking at whether make-up sessions are necessary, particularly for classes that meet just once a week, spokesman Matt Nagel said.

Decisions will depend on whether a class syllabus can be adapted to a shorter teaching period and will vary course-by-course, instructor-by-instructor, he said.
