An Atlanta City Council committee has approved resolutions authorizing the Georgia State University Research Foundation and the Boys and Girls Club of Metro Atlanta to continue providing children’s after-school and weekend programs.
The two entities “are our main primary after-school partners” at the city’s Centers of Hope recreational centers, Parks and Recreation Commissioner Amy Phuong told this week’s meeting of the Community Development/Human Resources Committee.
The committee signed off two special procurement agreements: One for one year and $440,000 with GSU, and the other for two years and $385,000 with the Boys and Girls Club. The resolutions are to be voted on Monday by the full Council.
Atlanta after-school programs offer cultural, academic and recreational opportunities for children ages 5-17, as well as adapted sports and therapeutic activities for special needs youngsters.
