Juniper Street in Atlanta’s Midtown would lose two of its four traffic lanes to parking, turn lanes and a barrier-separated bicycle lane as one of four bike- and pedestrian-related projects in a funding resolution approved by the City Council on Monday.
Some $7.8 million in Federal Transit Administration funds would go toward three projects managed by the Midtown Alliance in its namesake neighborhood, and one by the city for Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in the Atlanta University Center area.
The Alliance would oversee the rebuilding of Juniper from 14th Street to Ponce de Leon Avenue; widened and improved sidewalks on Spring Street from 17th to Peachtree streets; and upgrades to 140 Midtown intersections, including crosswalk signals, re-striped crosswalks, handicapped-accessible ramps and anti-skid surfaces, an Alliance spokesman said.
King Drive plans call for pedestrian improvements and better access to MARTA bus and rail stations from Ollie Street to Northside Drive.
