The office of Mayor Kaseem Reed addressed concern for the residents of Friendship Towers, most of whom are elderly and physically challenged, while the air conditioning system is repaired.

“My administration is committed to protecting the safety and health of all Atlanta residents,” Reed said. “Senior citizens who are most vulnerable deserve our commitment to their well-being. My Office of Constituent Services and the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department have been engaged with the residents of Friendship Towers, providing water, food, fans and access to cooling centers.”

Mayor Reed’s concern was echoed by members of Friendship Baptist Church, which pledged its help to Tower residents.

“The living conditions for the residents of Friendship Towers are at crisis level as a result of the recent heat wave,” said Reed.

The mayor said he spoke with church leaders and they have promised to have the building’s central air conditioning fully repaired by the end of the day on Friday and the church will pay to temporarily house residents who wish to re-locate into a hotel until the air conditioning is repaired.
