DeKalb County celebrated the beginning of construction for an outdoor basketball court with a groundbreaking ceremony July 15.

Gresham Park recieved a $48,000 donation from the Atlanta Hawks Foundation to support the construction of the basketball court.

“The outdoor basketball court is yet another opportunity for youngsters and adults to enjoy the sport of basketball,” said Roy Wilson, director of DeKalb County’s Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs.

Construction on the basketball court will begin in the next 30 days. The court is expected to be complete in late fall, officials said.

“We’re excited about this groundbreaking ceremony,” DeKalb County Interim CEO Lee May said, “and we’re going to be even more excited to cut the ribbon on the actual basketball court.”
