The Atlanta Department of Corrections announced Tuesday the launch of the “Love Our City” community improvement campaign. The department will accept clean-up requests from the public to remove trash, clear debris and paint over graffiti through April 21, and the beautification projects will begin on Earth Day, April 22, and continue until requests have been completed. The work will be completed by participants in the Inmate Work Detail Program at the Atlanta City Detention Center, which allows non-violent, minimum security inmates who have been charged with misdemeanor offenses to earn “good time” on their respective sentences.

“We received overwhelming positive feedback from our first Love Our City initiative, completing more than 150 clean-up projects throughout the city,” said Chief Patrick Labat, Atlanta Department of Corrections. “We are excited to launch this spring cleaning campaign focused around Earth Day to demonstrate Corrections’ commitment to clean, sustainable and vibrant communities.”

The department, or DOC, held its first improvement campaign in February and received 171 requests from residents across the city. Requests from residents will be reviewed on a first-come, first-serve basis and scheduled accordingly by the Atlanta Department of Corrections.
