Atlanta-based NexxLinx is closing its Duluth facility, affecting 236 jobs.
The call center company provides outsourcing for services including telemarketing and customer service. Its corporate headquarters is based in Buckhead.
The Duluth call center is the company’s newest, opened in 2014. The shutdown is due to NexxLinx’s biggest client, Charter Communications, switching to internal customer service instead of the outsourcing that NexxLinx provides, said Chief Communications Officer Stephen Smith.
All 236 employees will be laid off, but Charter is offering them “generous signing bonuses and competitive wages” if they choose to take jobs at Charter’s Columbia, South Carolina, call center, Smith said.
“The fact that Charter wants to hire our employees and move them to South Carolina is a testament to the quality of work they do,” he said, noting the layoff is not related to the facility’s performance.
NexxLinx is also closing a facility in Jacksonville, North Carolina, affecting 280 workers. In January, the company announced it would lay off 109 workers from an Orono, Maine call center.
