After a two-year run, a highly-attended outdoor event with live bands, food and vendors has been indefinitely postponed.

The Pick'n In Grant Park BBQ & Music Festival was put on by the Grant Park Conservancy in 2015 and 2016. A 2017 festival was never promoted, but organizers announced the postponement last week on Facebook.

The conservancy's executive director, Michelle Blackmon, said Monday that the group wanted to try something a little different this year. She was referring to the Grant Park Birthday Gala and Silent Auctionan event that the small organization hopes might raise more money for the park than the previous festival did.

While the young event was financially successful, festivals are weather-dependent and therefore risky, Blackmon said. The conservancy can only put on a limited number of events, and "lots of resources" go towards the park's long-running Summer Shade Festival.

Things aren’t definitely over for Pick’n In Grant Park, though. The conservancy said it will re-evaluate at the end of the year.

But for now, the upcoming auction and gala will celebrate the park's 134th birthday at Eventide Brewing, 1015 Grant St. SE, Saturday from 6 to 10 p.m.

Tickets range from $30-$45.
