For sale: Fire station. Used. A lot.

The City of Atlanta this week began accepting bids on the Flat Shoals Avenue building that housed the firefighters of Station 13 for nearly 90 years.

The 2148-square-foot fire house opened in 1921 on just under a quarter-acre of land in the 400 block of Flat Shoals Avenue in southeast Atlanta. It’s been vacant since a new Station 13 was built across Metropolitan Avenue in 2010, according to Mark Haldane, real estate asset manager for the city.

Bids, which must include a certified check or surety bond for 10 percent of the bid price, will be accepted through Dec. 20, Haldane told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Potential bidders can inspect the property from 1 to 5 p.m. on Nov. 20, he said.

The building is being sold as is, and if you’ve always dreamed of having a fire pole to slide down after getting out of bed every morning, you’re out of luck, because the station is a single-story building.
