Have your heart set on living out your golden years in a college town?

You may not want to look any farther than Athens.

That city made CNN Money’s “25 Best Places to Retire” list, which was published Tuesday.

Football and free classes are Athens’ big draws.

“Athens is best known for football, but there’s plenty more to love,” the CNN story notes.

It “has all the bells and whistles of a big city — great health care, live music, fine cuisine — minus the sprawl and expensive housing.”

Another big selling point: Retirees can audit classes at the University of Georgia for free. And UGA’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute offers seniors a chance to bond through a variety of enrichment classes and special-interest groups, from bicycling to vegetable gardening.

More positives to consider: Athens’ median home price is $142,000 and the top state income tax is 6 percent.

Still, for all its positives, Athens was No. 19 on the list.

Albuquerque was the No. 1 city for retirees who want to live in a college town.

Other southern cities on the list include:

  • No. 8: Winston Salem, N.C.
  • No. 10: St. Augustine, Fla.
  • No. 12: Sevierville, Tenn.
  • No. 16: Hunstville, Ala.
  • No. 17: Lynchburg, Va.
  • No. 21: Ft. Payne, Ala.
